  • 2 tbsp gram flour (besan)
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • 4-5 green chilies, slit

H; 3.1: For Pakoras:

  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds (crushed)
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (as needed to make the batter)
  • Oil for frying

H; 4: Instructions:

Step 1: Preparing the Pakoras

  1. Make the batter: In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, chopped onion, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Gradually add water to form a thick, smooth batter.
  2. Fry the pakoras: Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Drop small portions of the batter into the hot oil using a spoon. Fry the pakoras until they are golden brown and crispy. Set aside on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 2: Cooking the Chicken Gravy

  1. Heat oil and temper spices: In a large pot, heat 4 tablespoons of oil. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and fenugreek seeds. Let them splutter for a few seconds to release their aroma.
  2. Sauté onions: Add chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste: Stir in ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  4. Tomatoes and spices: Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes break down and the oil starts separating from the mixture.
  5. Add chicken: Add the chicken pieces and cook on medium heat until the chicken changes color and is partially cooked.
  6. Gram flour and yogurt mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the gram flour and yogurt to form a smooth mixture. Gradually add this to the chicken while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  7. Simmer: Add 2 cups of water to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3: Finalizing the Karhi

  1. Add fried pakoras: Once the gravy has thickened and the chicken is fully cooked, gently add the fried pakoras to the karhi.
  2. Garnish: Finish by adding fresh coriander leaves and slit green chilies for an extra burst of flavor.
  3. Serve: Your delicious Pakistani Chicken Karhi is ready to be served! Pair it with steamed rice or fresh naan for a complete meal.
Conclusion: This authentic Pakistani Chicken Karhi recipe brings together the richness of traditional spices and the creamy goodness of yogurt, making it a perfect meal for any occasion. Easy to prepare and bursting with flavor, this dish is sure to impress your family and friends. Enjoy!
